January & February Spanish

When they write a story, students practice using vocabulary, listening, translating, understandinganswering questions, adding details, using personalization, following sequenceswritingreading, and acting out the play.

Listening Comprehension
Lower Elementary practice TPR commands in which I might say, "La clase se levanta, canta, se rie y aplaude,” and the class stands up, sings, laughs, and applauds. The commands are getting longer and longer and the students enjoy creating their own commands.

Lower Elementary students summarize their stories through telling, drawing, and writing their adaptations to share with their friends.

Middle Elementary students have been learning the names of clothing they wear in cold weather. They wrote sentences to practice clothing vocabulary and the verb llevar (to wear). The students filled in the blanks in each sentence and then wrote a story.

¿Quién dijo…? (Who said?) is an activity in which students recall the story and determine which character made the statement.

Upper Elementary
students are writing sentences and stories to practice the indefinite articles.  They are also
writing two Spanish songs and translating an English song to Spanish.

Upper Elementary students wrote a composition about their New Year's resolutions. It was a great way to practice past tense verbs.

Upper Elementary & Middle School students are provided with continuous opportunities to speak both formally and informally in class. The students also write questions that they can ask another classmate. They are very interesting questions!

After reading a novel or a story in class, Middle School students have seen imperfect subjunctives many times. To give them more exposure with the IF clause, they participated in a quick activity.  EX: Si yo tuviera cinco millones de dolares yo… (If I had 5 millions dollars, I would...).  They practiced the verbs: tener (to have), hablar (to talk)poder (to be able to).  The students also wrote their own sentences using Si yo… (If I …).

Middle School students are writing their own songs. Some work with a partner and some work alone. They are using their knowledge of music and filming.
