Self-Regulation in Early Childhood
Early Childhood students enjoy every
opportunity to explore the dynamics of friendship. This process requires the
children to develop self-regulation to succeed.
Self-regulation allows children to manage their
emotions, behavior, and body movement when faced with challenges or
frustrations.
In our Early Childhood classrooms, the children
are working on the self-regulation skills of:
- Focusing and maintaining attention on a task
- Communicating needs,
wants, and thoughts using words
- Following requests or instructions
- Ignoring distractions
- Moving or acting in a deliberate or
purposeful fashion
- Creating guidelines or rules for a
game
- Regulating emotions in
appropriate social interactions
If you would like more information about
supporting your child as he or she learns self-regulation, register for a Positive Discipline workshop or support group. Our free Positive Discipline "Parents Helping Parents" support groups provide opportunities to connect with parents in our community and discuss tools and strategies to manage different issues at home. The next support group meets on Tuesday, March 13 from 8:45 to 10:00 AM.
Our spring Intro to Positive Discipline Workshop is Saturday, March 17 from 9 AM to 1 PM. Childcare is available. Join facilitator Emi Canahuati and practice useful tools such as providing limited choices, encouragement, and positive
reinforcement of appropriate behaviors. Register here!
