Upper Elementary Classroom News - December 18

As the calendar year comes to a close and we look forward to the end of our second semester, we reflect on all of the work we have accomplished during the first half of the school year.

In the classroom, students spent time this week organizing their desks and materials and placing evidence of their work in a finished work file. On the farm, we continue to harvest greens, lettuces, turnips, and radishes, which we share with the community on Fridays as a part of the beans and rice meal. The barn now has a roof, and we are busy planting berry bushes, and building benches and tables. We are caring for chickens, and we anticipate the arrival of five wool sheep to the farm in January.

Science lessons have centered around chemistry. Students are learning about atoms, molecules, and the periodic table of elements. Lessons in measurement are an on-going activity and a necessary skill for science and farm activities. Several students have been practicing measurement of volume, mass, area, and even amps with the electrical materials over the last few weeks.

The classroom guides are committed to sending a weekly update from here on out!
